Erol M. Altay has been engaged in the practice of architecture in the Chicago Area since 1976. Beginning with high-end single family housing and mid-size commercial projects, Erol was involved with design-build as a way to control design quality and project delivery, as well as an invaluable learning tool for future larger scale work. Subsequently working with the firms of S.M. Altay Associates, and Barancik Conte and Associates, Erol obtained experience working in governmental and private sector commercial and hi-rise construction. After becoming a principal and vice-president of Barancik Conte and Associates, Erol co-founded BCA Architects in 1993, later to become Kachoris Altay Architects, Inc.
As a working principal, Erol has been and is involved with all phases of the projects in the office. What he brings to bear is a personal involvement from initial client contact, feasibility, programming, and schematic design; to on-the-board working drawing production, written specifications, evaluation of bids and contract awards, and construction administration. Over the last twenty years Erol has presented to planning boards and city councils as well as corporate committees and individual developers. His work has ranged from multi-building office campuses and concrete frame luxury residential hi-rise buildings, to speculative and corporate headquarter offices, senior apartment and congregate care facilities, the occasional single family home, and an added component of architectural consultation for realty advisors and building managers.Building on 30 years of rock climbing and mountaineering experience in the US, Canada, the UK, Turkey, and Pakistan, Erol has designed several indoor rock climbing and adventure facilities. Combining this capability with our expertise in commercial and hi-rise construction, allows Altay Architects to provide exterior masonry and facade inspection services in which Erol Altay can directly and efficiently observe surface conditions without the need of additional stage and scaffold rigging.
